Welome to our site honoring our beloved son, brother, uncle and friend to many; La'akea Sky Smith
Sky was a remarkable soul. From Infancy he was exceptionally intelligent and equally compassionate. He was loyal and focused in his love in a way that made everyone he spent time with the most important person in his world. Throughout this site we will share the story of his journey. So Powerful a life, so eternal a Love. The name of the site "My Life Turns Me on" is quoted verbatim from his last post on Facebook, no photo, no explanation just this profound sentiment..... with in 24 hours of this, his last gift to us, he was tragically killed while riding home from a young people's AA meeting where he had met with a number of the young men he was sponsoring on their healing journey. Sky was 23 years old and had accomplished 5 years of sobriety, was one week into his dream of attending UC Berkeley, and was currently working on recording his poetry accompanied by playing his beloved Ovation Guitar. His dream, among many, was to study sustainability with the vision of helping implement systems in towns, firstly in South America. He was accomplished in the Spanish language and had begun studying Portuguese, hoping to begin his on site work in Brazil. Sky had founded the Cabrillo College Sustainability Club and was its first acting president. Upon his death a scholarship was created at Cabrillo College, "The La'akea Sky Smith Sustainability Scholarship" every year 2 students are selected from applicants with a focus on sustainability, tracking to go onto a 4 year university with a major in environment science or sustainability ecology field. 100% of the profits from the catalogue of products on this site will go towards funding this scholarship. From this place, where so many of his dreams had already come true, and where he had arrived after traversing a rigorous journey of healing, successfully managing a Bipolar condition & with 5 years sobriety, La'akea Sky departed this earthly life. He is sorely missed and everywhere continually inspiring. Thank you for taking the time to "Always Remember Sky". One profound way to do this is by your generous donation to the scholarship in his honor. This Scholarship has now been supporting the dreams of students for 10 years and depends on our annual giving campaign. Please see below for information the the links to donate.

About this design
This Art piece was created by Anne Hart, with input from Sky's sister Nani. It includes his actual guitar and surfboard, a lotus symbolizing his spiritual path and the waves and graphics of his Island Home Kauai. The Bird is the beloved Shama thrush of Kauai with which we have had many magical connections since Sky's death and has come to be a messenger for us, bringing comfort knowing Sky is always with us.
